Description
A digital collage using my small drawing Watch City as a jumping off point. The fine lines from the ink drawing are overlaid on a metallic abstracted version of the same drawing with drop shadows created for emphasis using layers. A water color version is layered underneath, with some of the metallic layer removed to mimic a worn appearance and reveal the color. Sandwiched between the water color layer and metallic layer are mysterious geared buts of machinery that peek out. The overall style is somewhere between abstract geometric art, surrealism and steampunk.
The title is a nod to the city of Waltham MA, the Watch City. It is called that because a bit of Victorian and Industrial Revolution History, a landmark mill building on the Charles River that was one of the earliest watch factories in the USA. Beyond the obvious references to watches, the layering of the piece and unveiling of the layers is reminiscent of things like costumes and period attire, which Waltham is fond of layering into many city events.
