Pensive Waters is a seascape that captures the light and colors of the magic hour, the transition between daylight and night time. A challenge in creating this piece was controlling the color and pattern of the depicted light while using experimental pouring techniques and transparency with mixed media. Clear tar gel and self-leveling clear gel were used to create the complex patterns in the waves, with much of the gel left transparent. Layering of different transparent colors and pours over raked patterns and light manipulating media creates some unique effects and presence in the piece.
