Artist's Description
The first acrylic mixed media painting in my tree of life series, autotroph combines DNA double helix motifs with the branching network formed by a tree. The work makes heavy use of mixed media with attention paid to the unique properties of acrylic paint and media as vehicles for sculpting, extruding, swirling, pouring, and as a transparent matrix for embedded objects and texturizing powders.
Exhibited as part of the Glitz National juried show at the Annmarie sculpture garden and art center in Solomons MD.
